Carter Small & The Smoking Guns: A Novel

Description of Brief:
A passion project of mine, Carter Small and The Smoking Guns is a mix between a coming-of-age story and a cowboy western. The book follows Carter Small from his youth as he slowly but surely meets more and more like-minded kids and form a gang. From his beginnings in an orphanage to an infamous outlaw, the book aims to show the story of The Old West in a new and exciting manner.
Objective:
When I began writing this book, it started simply as a creative outlet. I wanted to read a story like the one I had in my head but was unable to find one, so sought to create it myself. As it progresses, however, I find myself using it as an expression of my writing ability. I want to ensure that my talents are seen and as such, this novel seemed like a great way to promote my passion for my craft.
Concept:
The concept of Carter Small and The Smoking Guns can be seen as a sort of self-portrait. The book portrays Carter as a shy and anxious child, which I myself have always been. As such, his progression towards infamy can be seen as me wanting to break out of my shell and achieve something great.
